![]() Battery life is 20 hours, which is around double the Sonos Roam (11) but less than the Marshall Emberton II (30+), for comparison to wireless speakers in the same price bracket. There’s nothing out of the ordinary on the feature side, with the Charge 5 graced with the usual features anyone who’s had a JBL wireless speaker would expect. App offers EQ customization, firmware updates.PartyBoost for stereo pairing or connecting multiple speakers. The lights might not be too helpful during the day, but as the days get shorter, they’ll be a little more helpful to have. In-between the physical buttons are LED lights that signal when the speaker is powered on and Bluetooth is connected, while below the JBL logo is a beam of light that flickers into life when any of the buttons are pressed, and it’ll also show how much is left in the tank when the speaker is being charged. One thing to note about the playback control is that while you can skip forward (two presses), you can’t skip back – it’s full steam ahead when it comes to music playlists. On top are volume, playback, power, PartyBoost and Bluetooth buttons, with an audible click that indicates a successful press – all that’s needed is a nudge to operate. On the speaker’s underside is a rubbery fixture that stops it from rolling over (it is cylindrical in shape after all). I half-expect portable speakers of this size to have one. There’s no auxiliary port for connecting a portable player, and while that shouldn’t feel surprising it does surprise me. If it gets dirty a rinse should clean up any dirt.Īround the back is a USB-C port for charging and the Charge 5 can perform duties as a powerbank to charge a mobile device with a USB-A port concealed beneath a flap. As is common with portable speakers, the Charge 5 has a rating of IP67 to defend against ingress of water, dust or dirt (tougher than the Charge 4’s IPX7). It comes in an array of colours – blue, white, black, camouflage, grey, green, red and pink – so there’s a generous number of finishes to pick from. There’s no handle, strap or hang loop to carry but the speaker’s fabric surface is grippy when held in the hand – though you’re going to need a bigger palm to hold the Charge 5 if that’s how you intend to ferry it about. I’ve dropped it down on hills at Greenwich Park from a few feet and I think the ground itself came worse off as the speaker landed with an uncompromising thud. It’s built like the proverbial brick house: durable, heavy and dense. Imagine a wireless speaker that looks like an American football, and you’d have the Charge 5 – you might even want to play a game of catch with it in the park.Īt just under 1kg, you wouldn’t want to fumble the catch lest it hit you square in the face (or any other part of the body). ![]() Given it is the fifth iteration of the series you might assume there’s little the Charge 5 could add to its feature set, but while the improvements over the Charge 4 are small, the series remains a massively enjoyable one. The Charge 5 is part of JBL’s range of larger portable speakers, the option for those who want a bigger sound both indoors and out. If you agree with me and you're not sure how to get started with your own site, there are actually quite a few options. It really wasn't a surprise that Squidoo shut down after all, so I feel like moving across to Hubpages is just further delaying the inevitable. If you really want to start affiliate marketing, embrace the opportunity now. It's just not the most practical way to make money online anymore. Yes Hubpages is still there and doing things right for now, but I can't see them leading the way into the future. Many of them have gone in the last couple of years. Sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, eZineArticles etc, are on the way out. …but I'm wondering…what happens if Hubpages starts going downhill like Squidoo? For now I still see Hubs in the search results, but will this new group of users lead to the same results? Is it still even worth it? It's going to be very easy for Squidoo users to transfer their content: The official reason given on their website was that Hubpages are the industry leaders and it will be beneficial to users if their content is on the best site. After a couple of months I realized I was wasting my time and in the long run my own sites would make me more money.įast forward to the future, Squidoo is moving to Hubpages. I used it for some writing practice and initial income when I first started out online. It was popular among those who couldn't be bothered, or didn't know how to build their own sites. You could build some pretty good articles and the interface was great. Squidoo was popular for a long time because it paid well, it ranked well too, and it was fun and creative. Affiliate marketing takes more time, but has much more potential. Your content, your rules, your increased income. The reason I left then, and the same reason I think it's time for everyone to move on, is because in the long run it's better to have your own site. I left around that time, but not out of anger or frustration at having lenses locked (none of mine were affected). Users left en-mass over a year ago when they started having lenses locked, content deleted, and a whole bunch of other tweaks were going on. Since it’s made by Apple, it’s not available for Windows, and everything we said applies to GarageBand. Logic Pro is the “older brother” of GarageBand. This way, Apple has more or less its own backyard and a much easier job at hand. However, for now, no such plans have even been mentioned.Īnother reason why this is unlikely to happen is that Apple doesn’t need to compete with the dozens of DAW makers currently fighting over the Windows market. Given that information, it’s not likely that Apple will ever release a version of GarageBand for Windows, but that can always change. Never say never, but since their foundation, Apple and Microsoft have been in a very open war with one another, and it hasn’t changed since. Will Apple Ever Release a Version of GarageBand for Windows? You should be running a DAW that works with your native system instead of using a VM. Music production can take a lot of processing power. Audio drivers may not work as well, and CPU performance may be much lower. Using a virtual machine on Windows to run GarageBand is not ideal. ![]() Why Shouldn’t You Use VM Workarounds to Install GarageBand for Windows? These instructions will either teach you how to use an Apple virtual machine on your Windows computer, emulating the macOS settings, or sell you an unsafe program that can be anything except GarageBand for Windows, as such a thing doesn’t exist. There is no safe version of GarageBand for Windows. If you try to install GarageBand on your Windows, you’ll see a lot of instructions and nothing more. As such, they have their own version of everything and tend not to make it available on devices other than their own. Why Is GarageBand Not Available on Windows?Īs you probably know, Apple has a big selling point on exclusivity. It also requires you to have a steady internet connection if you want to open the app. Any more and you’ll have to buy a cloud membership. You also get an extensive sound library, unlimited soundtracks, automation, and a very fast and friendly UI.Īs great as it is, it does have some downsides as a “free” DAW. ![]() These groups are each unique and gain their identity based on a judge’s level of engagement and the way they interact with the community and events, rather than simply where they are located in the world. One of our most illuminating findings is that there are 4 distinct motivation groups among judges, and that all judges tend to fall into one (or more) of these categories. The motivations and needs of judges don’t easily split along regional lines. Judge Academy 2022 and Beyond Judge Academy Structural ChangesĪfter traveling the world (when it was possible) and talking to judges in various regions, we realized that to best serve our members, we need to account for more than just a judge’s location to decide how to serve them. ![]() This means that there are a ton of changes to work through for 2022, including changes to our fees and services. Judge Academy will be coming out of its COVID hibernation with a large amount of restructuring. The Judge Academy team has been brainstorming on what the future can hold and utilizing this down time as a chance to relaunch Judge Academy with a clearer purpose after over a year of hibernation. While we may have been tight on resources by not charging renewal fees for existing judges, I firmly believe it was one of the best choices we could have made to support our judges. The small silver lining to the rain cloud of the last 1.5 years is that Judge Academy has been able to use this hibernation time to refine our place in Organized Play and how we can best serve our members. Now that we’ve covered some of the lessons learned, we’re going to discuss Judge Academy’s trajectory for 2022 and beyond. If you are interested in reading more into the “why” of some of the big decisions we’ve made, I encourage you to take a look as his letter the the community below: Click here to read A Letter from Tim Shields ![]() I’m going to start by passing you off to Tim, who wants to talk to you all a bit about Judge Academy and the program at large, as well as what we’ve learned over the last two years. This is going to be a long and detailed update with a number of changes, so sit down with a cup of tea or your choice of relaxing beverage and buckle in! Below, you’ll find a TON of information around our plans for 2022. As events slowly begin to return, we’ve made the decision that keeping judges educated, connected, and engaged is our top priority. We hope to get those back for publishing on Monday. The summary above is also currently being translated into Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese. Please note that while it does summarize the information, the full document below will give a much more comprehensive and detail oriented look at the changes. We were asked to create a summary of sorts, to make the key highlights easier to digest. We tried to add as much context and explanation as possible, along with a number of preview images we thought members might like. The only problem? No Legendary Squirrels.Hey! This document is extremely dense. ![]() They have waited and hoped that someday there would be enough squirrel cards or ‘squirrel adjacent’ cards to make a decent Commander Deck. There has always been a faction among the MTG faithful who have LOVED squirrels. ![]() It feels like a missed opportunity, especially due to the difficulty outside of Japan in getting a local handheld multiplayer session started. Ridge Racer 3D supports local play only, with no online component. The biggest disappointment is the lackluster multiplayer section. You can also take advantage of Streetpass to duel against ghost racers, although obviously that requires you to be situated in a city of 3DS users who all have Ridge Racer. You’ve got Grand Prix, which allows you to unlock new tracks and cars, standard one-off races, automatically generated “quick tours” that create games based on how long you want to play, and the obligatory time attack courses. ![]() There’s a variety of predictable race modes to choose from. After a while, the races seem to feel identical, but for quick racing on the go, this is a terrific choice helped by satisfying, responsive controls that work really well with the 3DS’ button layout and new analog nub. The races themselves are damn fun with some nicely designed, if aesthetically similar, tracks that put the focus on skillful cornering and drifting. The perks make for a cool new addition, but it would have been great to have more choices and unique abilities to choose from. Perks are bought using points earned from successful races and take the form of extra nitrous bursts and automatic rocket boosts. New additions to the series come in the form of some fresh car selections, and a range of perks that can be purchased before each race. For the most part, Namco Bandai’s 3DS launch effort is a fairly standard, basic racing game that does exactly what it needs to do in order to be solid, if not outstanding. It almost seems like creating a decent racing game is a secondary goal, so it’s quite some pleasant surprise that Ridge Racer is quite fun, too.įans of the Ridge Racer series can expect a mostly familiar experience, with 3D mostly taking popular courses from past games and sticking to the franchise’s arcade racing roots. Ridge Racer 3D‘s overall goal seems quite clear - to use the visual perspective of the racing genre to be the prime example of the 3DS’ 3D gimmickry. The handling is realistic, yet this is a dull game, and for 20p more you can download Real Racing 2 on to your smartphone or tablet.Ridge Racer 3D is one of two racing games available for the 3DS at launch, and since the other one is part of GameLoft’s Asphalt series, there’s really only one choice. The graphics are better than on the DS games, but we soon got bored. This game has awkward controls and takes a while to get used to. Racing remote control cars on screen is nowhere near as much fun as the real thing. ![]() We just think Ridge Racer is more fun for nearly half the price. Still, the detail is great, it’s challenging and there’s a lot of offline racing. It’s a great handheld racer, but the sound and graphics aren’t as good as on the PS3, plus you’ll have to wait until September for the 2012 version on both platforms. Sadly, the transition from PS3 to Vita has done F1 2011 no favours. The graphics are as good as in Mario Kart and the handling just as much fun, but it’s not as challenging and won’t keep you hooked for as long as the other Vita games. You can customise your kart, driver and even the tracks. ![]() Recommended: Another fun karting game, even though the characters aren’t as recognisable as in the 3DS titles. This £16.99 download is also cheaper than the full £19.99 game. Still, you can play the thrilling arcade mode without Wi-Fi. Rivals are tough to beat, too, but career mode relies on an Internet connection, which you won’t always have in-car. Best buy: Arcade classic offers realistic graphics and fun handling, and you earn boost by cornering sideways, which is great. |
